So here I am in the Simcoe building, 40mins early for my lecture again, with the net constantly going on and off because it’s stupid like that.

Not much has been heard from Adwin Lam[d] recently…and well, to your advantage, there hasn’t been too much happening in my life to actually write for you to read – not that you’d really give a shit anyway. So, everything i am saying will be scattered, I guess…since i will try to randomly remember important things that you might like to read.

Let’s start with the fact that i am now an EWB@UOIT member. Well, since we don’t have a graduated class, EWB cannot consider us as an official chapter yet, unlike Waterloo, UT, Ryerson etc. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t do things in the name of EWB. In fact, we’re doing a lot of fundraising, trying to gain an earlier approval by our works, haha. So, we have a pub night on Oct 5th…hurray. Bad thing is, everybody I’ve advertised to takes the bus, just like me, so the last bus leaves campus at 10…the pub night starts at 9…hrmm. Tough.

Righto, so yesterday was the first Connect Group for me, from 5-6pm. Our group members are Sunny (3rd yr), Cheryl and Ainsley(2nd yr), Kathy the leader (2nd yr), Edwin and I. Missing was Chris Forbes…haha. Connect Group is currently doing a study based on a Christian book, so it’s kind of similar to what we used to do in Hosanna with IKDG…or what Aletheia tried to do with The Jesus I Never Knew. We never really got to know each other in CG, but got to talk quite a bit about the topic, the book as well as some stuff that happens around us. And so continues my evaluation of Campus Church…currently, I see it as very straightforward and by-the-book. They have had no attempts to get to know anyone new better than a first-name and program basis…What’s also funny is there’s another campus fellowship known as Deeper Life Fellowship. I wonder if there was any drama revolving around that?

After CG, I promptly ran to the bus stop at the O, since mom told me the bus was at 6:10, only to be deceived and waited until 6:20 – the time the bus was to come on time. On the bus, I had an hour’s worth of conversation with a chap in Industrial manufacturing/design at DC – his name was Eric [Podonsky?? typo]. Anyway, it was really cool to know that he went to ACE in Toronto, as well as the dark secrets of the not-so-techy SATEC (he used to go there). It was also interesting to hear more opinions regarding world issues, such as poverty. It’s somewhat true: economy is based on others being poor. Other things that stood out: standardized minimum wage; low-ass minimum wage/poverty replaced slavery; the amount of money Americans spend on diet products could have been used to provide food for the world.
It was interesting, nonetheless, so I hope to have a chance to hang out with him again sometime.

In the words of my dad, to his homosexual friend in highschool:

I like women, so don’t touch me.

And like women I do. A lot.

This Starbucks mild coffee I bought is making me feel good – this is the first coffee I’ve ever consumed since March. Not only that, it only cost me $1.70…which I think is reasonable. However, I don’t tend to make this a habit…just today, since it’s Friday.

One of the strangest things this week would have to be an email i received from Arthur – I had been put into a new worship team. Ok, what’s wrong with this picture? Well:

  1. I talked to Nathan about my break
  2. I talked to Arthur about my break

So, I had to fire out a reply to Holly and the new team, which conveniently had Art CC’d…fully explaining my situation. I didn’t have to do this…it should have already been sorted out DURING their organizing…haha.

Any other news?…probably not…other than, I finished a 2000+ word essay last saturday which i am handing in today (should be in 8mins, rather), as well as a 250 word memo…and in around 5 hours, I am writing a linear algebra quiz. Midterms are in 2 weeks and many other things before that.

I have my case of left-eye twitching again, due to lack of sleep, which should be regained this weekend, my ring finger is constantly typing S accidentally and my breath stinks (I need Uththaman to supply me with gum…).

Oh, and today marks the anniversary of my grandma’s death. The word ‘anniversary’ sounds too cheerful. Sadly, there are no direct synonyms for ‘anniversary’.

G’day all…just one of those posts about what I’ve been doing in life, without any real deep thoughts. Or, maybe I’ll have some deep thoughts afterwards as I type.

Finished is another week of university, with only 11 more until my first calculus midterm sits on the horizon. Only less than one week and 3 days until my IT and Tech Comm. term papers are due. Less than 15 hours until I start doing a list of things I have written down to do. Finished is another week, and what have I learned at university? Not so much from the subjects I am taking, but more about the people around me on campus. On Wednesday, I had dinner at 5pm with Chris Forbes, who is a fellow electrical engineer. We decided to head over to the UB Caf – more specifically, Spices. Now, when people said Chartwell’s is crap, I am almost full-heartedly agreeing with them now. I had ordered a soya sauce fried rice…and I never finished it – the soya was just too salty. Of course, at the time I was kind of suffering the after-effects of standing in the cold for 6 hours…

After dinner that night, I went over to find L214 for the Campus Church kickoff night. To my surprise, I see Tom, who was part of TOC (the Frosh leaders). Now, I’ve heard a lot of smack from my upper year Asian friends about CC…and knowing myself, I wanted to form MY OWN opinion. I think other than the DC 1st year student of water purification, named Keith, shaking my hand and talking to me when I initiated in conversation…nobody else in the room bothered introducing themselves, or engage in conversation. Oh, except Ross Lewis…but he seemed in a hurry to talk to other people. However, I do understand their sense of hostility and their alienation towards me…because I am afterall, a newcomer who’s Asian (ie. not Caucasian or “Black”). Asians, in general, are supposed to be reserved and not that out-going. Hence, they didn’t NEED to engage in conversation with me because my of how people of my colour usually act. I’m not angry, seriously. I plan to further evaluate Campus Church by attending the Connect Groups, just to see how things will go. However, they haven’t replied to my email yet about them…so we’ll have to wait.

Yesterday was another day of learning more about new friends (ie. Edwin and Daryl) while standing for almost a full hour in a bus filled with other university/college students. Good times, good times. Today wasn’t as bad as yesterday though…since I got a seat. Edwin, on the other hand, had to stand for a little while…but eventually got a seat. Happy were we.

I guess this leads to WHY/HOW I was able to get a seat then…let me elaborate! I had a linear algebra tutorial from 2:10 to 4…meaning I would have had 7mins to run across campus, from behind the library, to the bus loop. Our TA looked at his watch at around 3:05 and said “SHIT! IM GOING TO MISS MY BUS! DAMMIT!!!!!” He told us he’d see us again, quickly packed his stuff and ran out the door. Now, since we were out early…and I had around 3 mins to run to the bus stop..I ran. I didn’t run fast…at all. So, I missed the bus, just as it left…and sure enough, it was packed. Being defeated, I sat at the bench right beside the bus stop, took out the laptop and started up MSN. The rest of the story is basically told.

Czech beers are interesting; we had it today (beer can be expired for up to a few weeks before going bad) with dinner. Of course, I followed my “eat first, drink in between and later” routine…but I didn’t finish the glass and I felt tipsy – bad sign (NOTE: My definition of tipsy is: if I drink more I may get drunk. NOT: I can’t even walk straight). If you feel tipsy (my definition), just don’t finish the drink…that’s how most kids my age (or any age for that matter) get drunk, if you think about it… And most definitely, don’t be an idiot and drink when you’re sad…you just KNOW you’re going to overdo it. Anyway, back to the Czech beer named Kozel! It has a nice strong, bold taste…much contrasted to Heineken and others so far’s lighter tastes – surprised me, that’s for sure. Now, Kozel is 4.8%, which is lower than Heineken, Asahi and Sapporo’s 5+…so it doesn’t make too much sense that less than one full glass of Kozel would make me tipsy, as opposed to 1.5 glasses of the others.
Possible reasons:

  1. Different ingredients
  2. It’s Czech
  3. I am going through early stages of a cold

Well…I guess that’s it for this week. Maybe another update soon – who knows? We’ve got two more beers in the fridge, the UK one and the German one. So that means you’ll be expecting another beer review in at least two weeks.

Cheers, and remember…drink, but don’t get drunk – that’s stupid.

Good day everyone!

I was experiencing cold symptoms last night, so i didn’t bother to come online and update/upload my experiences at Campus Fest 06.
However, now that I am awake and full…I can write an update!

So I arrived at UOIT only to line up for 30mins…since I arrived 30mins early, haha. GOOD THING I DID, since the line was incredibly long. When we were granted access, we went ahead and started getting our free swag… First stop would be the Oshawa Centre, with it’s cheerleaders and Star, haha. And well…I don’t think you want to hear about all the free stuff i got, so I’m going to skip those parts now.

Onwards to the music! The music was very good! Because Travis the VP of SA is Christian, we got to have a few bands that had Christian influence (ie. Promise).

Women & Children: I don’t remember much of them…except that its a big joke the main singer, who is the lone guitarist, couldn’t get his guitar tuned in time. At the beginning of the last song, he tried tuning…then played and sang…then stopped singing tried tuning…and repeated. HA. But overall, sounded ok…

Cheapsuits: Don’t remember them. At all…haha.

Kyle Dutka: Now these guys…BEAUTIFUL. I just loved their sound: crisp, clean, emo, relaxing, cute female bg vocals, SAXOPHONE PLAYER. Sadly, they didn’t have any merch for me to pick up…so I took a picture with most of them instead.

Farenheit: WOW. Bought and got signed. Enough said…haha. Ok, some more notes then, ENERGETIC. Crazy ass set, which was very energetic, with the singer jumping and posing and stuff. The guitarist was really rad.

Promise: The first of many rap/hiphop acts…and I THINK he was Christian, since his lyrics had many positive messages. His girlfriend was also here, her name was Rheanna, the one who has a few hits on Flow. I don’t listen to Flow, or follow rap/hiphop too much so when they were like “Zomg, she’s Rheanna bro, check it out!” I was like “Ah”. Picked up the mix CD and got it signed.

Shad K: Like all the other acts that played, very good sound. Crazy ass bassist, very energetic drummer and funny DJ. The funnyness: the DJ was putting some of his vinyls somewhere and the wind blew them away. Harhar.

Skratch 3: SKA. Very cool. My eardrums started hurting when the trumpeteer hit really high notes. They had steel drums…so that was cool as well. However, I got tired of their music and got ready for Mobile, haha.

Public: Very smooth sound, which reminded me of mewithoutyou…so i picked up their “CD”. This CD was kind of a ripoff, since it only had 2 songs. $3 though…so not too bad of a rip; $10 would have been a different story though.

Rides Again: Wasn’t familiar with them before, since they were ‘Shwa locals…but one of the best locals. This trio was really rocking. I had an opportunity to get my CD signed by the lead vox/guitar before they played, and he was really kind and stuff :D After Hedley played, i proceeded to get the CD signed by the other two members, and got big thanks. Very humble.

Kardinal Offishall: Always fun to have a big TO star play…I think we disappointed him and his crew a lot, haha. Yes, we’re not really too receptive/responsive! It was either planned, or it were really mess-ups, but the DJ kept on having trouble with his gear. Kardinal was like “WTF…let’s try again…and if it messes up again, we’ll just do something else, man.” Two songs I knew: GRINDIN’ and BACARDI SLANG :D

Mobile: Well, this was the first time I had heard anything else other than Outta My Head…so it was kinda cool. I really liked Christian, their guitar/pianist..it was a pleasure watching him play, haha. However, the lead singer seemed very detached to us…as if he was just singing the songs so he could get the hell out of ‘Shwa and go back to TO for the bigger concert.

Hedley: My first time hearing them. They sound alright actually! But yeah: HEDLEY SUCKS (they told me to tell you that). The band is really, really random…since the lead keeps on performing random obscene acts, from spitting on his band mates to scratching his crotch. A really, really energetic show, nonetheless. They even got dancers from our campus to go on stage, and even showed their rears with Hedley tattooed on ‘em. Apart from womanizing (treating the girls like meat) and teaching little kids to give the finger, they had a pretty solid show. Not bad for the last show in Canada until their next CD.

So all in all…I had fun at CampusFest06…I hope the tradition will continue on, and have a CampusFest07! I’m looking forward to it :D There was a lot of swearing…which I’m sure wasn’t really planned, but oh well…we’re in university now and it’s the year 2006…so deal with it. I think if it wasn’t for Travis being VP and a Christian, we’d have had bands that worshipped Satan…so you’d have them telling everyone to worship the devil and salute like Nazis. Never know…it could happen.

Those mosh-fights and silly-looking dances are pretty…lame as well. Haha.
Anyway, what do I have to show from last night? Signed CDs, pictures (coming up) and a partially deaf left ear (either cold coming or something bad).

Pictures now up!
