Good day everyone!
I was experiencing cold symptoms last night, so i didn’t bother to come online and update/upload my experiences at Campus Fest 06.
However, now that I am awake and full…I can write an update!
So I arrived at UOIT only to line up for 30mins…since I arrived 30mins early, haha. GOOD THING I DID, since the line was incredibly long. When we were granted access, we went ahead and started getting our free swag… First stop would be the Oshawa Centre, with it’s cheerleaders and Star, haha. And well…I don’t think you want to hear about all the free stuff i got, so I’m going to skip those parts now.
Onwards to the music! The music was very good! Because Travis the VP of SA is Christian, we got to have a few bands that had Christian influence (ie. Promise).
Women & Children: I don’t remember much of them…except that its a big joke the main singer, who is the lone guitarist, couldn’t get his guitar tuned in time. At the beginning of the last song, he tried tuning…then played and sang…then stopped singing tried tuning…and repeated. HA. But overall, sounded ok…
Cheapsuits: Don’t remember them. At all…haha.
Kyle Dutka: Now these guys…BEAUTIFUL. I just loved their sound: crisp, clean, emo, relaxing, cute female bg vocals, SAXOPHONE PLAYER. Sadly, they didn’t have any merch for me to pick up…so I took a picture with most of them instead.
Farenheit: WOW. Bought and got signed. Enough said…haha. Ok, some more notes then, ENERGETIC. Crazy ass set, which was very energetic, with the singer jumping and posing and stuff. The guitarist was really rad.
Promise: The first of many rap/hiphop acts…and I THINK he was Christian, since his lyrics had many positive messages. His girlfriend was also here, her name was Rheanna, the one who has a few hits on Flow. I don’t listen to Flow, or follow rap/hiphop too much so when they were like “Zomg, she’s Rheanna bro, check it out!” I was like “Ah”. Picked up the mix CD and got it signed.
Shad K: Like all the other acts that played, very good sound. Crazy ass bassist, very energetic drummer and funny DJ. The funnyness: the DJ was putting some of his vinyls somewhere and the wind blew them away. Harhar.
Skratch 3: SKA. Very cool. My eardrums started hurting when the trumpeteer hit really high notes. They had steel drums…so that was cool as well. However, I got tired of their music and got ready for Mobile, haha.
Public: Very smooth sound, which reminded me of mewithoutyou…so i picked up their “CD”. This CD was kind of a ripoff, since it only had 2 songs. $3 though…so not too bad of a rip; $10 would have been a different story though.
Rides Again: Wasn’t familiar with them before, since they were ‘Shwa locals…but one of the best locals. This trio was really rocking. I had an opportunity to get my CD signed by the lead vox/guitar before they played, and he was really kind and stuff
After Hedley played, i proceeded to get the CD signed by the other two members, and got big thanks. Very humble.
Kardinal Offishall: Always fun to have a big TO star play…I think we disappointed him and his crew a lot, haha. Yes, we’re not really too receptive/responsive! It was either planned, or it were really mess-ups, but the DJ kept on having trouble with his gear. Kardinal was like “WTF…let’s try again…and if it messes up again, we’ll just do something else, man.” Two songs I knew: GRINDIN’ and BACARDI SLANG
Mobile: Well, this was the first time I had heard anything else other than Outta My Head…so it was kinda cool. I really liked Christian, their guitar/pianist..it was a pleasure watching him play, haha. However, the lead singer seemed very detached to us…as if he was just singing the songs so he could get the hell out of ‘Shwa and go back to TO for the bigger concert.
Hedley: My first time hearing them. They sound alright actually! But yeah: HEDLEY SUCKS (they told me to tell you that). The band is really, really random…since the lead keeps on performing random obscene acts, from spitting on his band mates to scratching his crotch. A really, really energetic show, nonetheless. They even got dancers from our campus to go on stage, and even showed their rears with Hedley tattooed on ‘em. Apart from womanizing (treating the girls like meat) and teaching little kids to give the finger, they had a pretty solid show. Not bad for the last show in Canada until their next CD.
So all in all…I had fun at CampusFest06…I hope the tradition will continue on, and have a CampusFest07! I’m looking forward to it
There was a lot of swearing…which I’m sure wasn’t really planned, but oh well…we’re in university now and it’s the year 2006…so deal with it. I think if it wasn’t for Travis being VP and a Christian, we’d have had bands that worshipped Satan…so you’d have them telling everyone to worship the devil and salute like Nazis. Never know…it could happen.
Those mosh-fights and silly-looking dances are pretty…lame as well. Haha.
Anyway, what do I have to show from last night? Signed CDs, pictures (coming up) and a partially deaf left ear (either cold coming or something bad).
