Tonight was an Erdinger Weissbrau Dunkel, which is a DARK wheat beer (the Dunkel is evident only on the dark; regular does not have Dunkel in the name).
First off, I am not too sure if there is a difference between dark wheat beer and an ale…though I suspect that dark wheat beer is not really considered ale. However, is it lager? Hahaha.
The Erdinger Dunkel, another beer from Germany, was different from the previous German beers. Noticeably would be its colour; just by looking at it, you’d think it was a glass of cola (no pictures to back this up). When cold, the Erdinger Dunkel had an evident bread-like taste. As the night went on (we ate for 2 hours tonight), and as the beer approached room temperature (the temperature ales should be drank at), the taste neither grew stronger or weaker. However, this depends on the region of your tongue the beer had hit first.
For me, the beer was mainly going to the back of my tongue, thus producing a somewhat creamy feel and clear taste. If the beer got to the side of the tongue, its hops came into effect, but didn’t produce as much as an aftertaste as the other beers before.
The Erdinger Dunkel was another beer in bottle form, but the bottle was not kept since it was a generic plain bottle, with only a snazzy label. Ergo, the cap was saved. Pictures to see
…it turns out the wine opener’s little “hole” was for beer caps! How many of you seriously knew that?
PS: I reckon if we saved enough Erdinger and Erdinger Dunkel caps, we could play checkers!
