Only 30-45mins sleep on a 15hr flight…

…that flight only took 40 minutes :P

EDIT: 1pm EST

So yesterday in my 15 hour flight back into North America, I only slept 30-45 minutes. The Boeing 777 I was on yesterday was a NEW addition to the Continental fleet, and had an UPDATED entertainment system, featuring a wider selection of videos/shows (300+) and games. I finally watched Wedding Crashers, Batman Begins and…actually, I think out of 15 hours, I only watched two movies (I don’t remember what else I watched! :O). The most ironic part about my flight was what I didn’t spend the bulk of my time doing: playing DS - I only racked up, perhaps, an hour on it…(IRONIC!). IMHO, the airplane meals aren’t all that bad; I might even say I like them a little! Yes, I will go out on a limb and say I actually LIKED my airplane meals! Salad…fruit…ice cream…hot sandwich…steak…and I am only in economy class!

After flying 15 hours, we would have 3 hours to reclaim our baggage, go through American customs, re-check the baggage and then get onto the plane… Instead, we got over 5 hours to do that, since there were massive delays. Newark airport is one damn confusing and disorganized place. The general staff are ignorant and add to the confusion, since they don’t know what the hell they’re talking about, the location of what we’re talking about, the location of what other staff talk about or anything else for that matter. The Homeland Security security check is something that really got on my nerves…since you are given a really short amount of time to take things off/out, walk slowly through the gate and then run to pick up your stuff before they’re stolen. Then, after you get to your stuff, you have 10 seconds to put on your shoes, jackets and whatever else and GTFO of the area. All the while, there will be guards everywhere screaming “MOVE!” and “HURRY UP!” and the occasional “LET’S MOVE! COME ON!”. Annoying. Oh, and if you’re an elderly person who doesn’t know English that well, or just don’t know English at all in any age/ethnic group, you are SCREWED BEYOND MEASURE in Newark. Actually, I don’t know if it’s JUST Newark, maybe it’s all airports, American or not - all of our gate/plane relocations were announced in [mumbled] English (and mumbled Spanish), shown on the boards in English…and everything else EnglishEnglishEnglish. Even if a person “knew” English, the announcements are useless, since the people who speak have too much information to blurt out in the 10 seconds they have the mic - too much info, too little time.

After waiting over 5 hours for our plane, we finally get on…and in less than 45 minutes, we are back in Toronto. God bless Canada.
