So I think its about time I shared a few of my uneducated thoughts of what David Miller, the mayor of Toronto, and his Council[lors], are doing to this city. If you didn’t know, Mayor Miller has been asking for tax increases of various types recently. He basically had this as options for us: “Higher tax A, or higher tax B”. When neither tax was chosen, he started screaming “FINE, I’LL CUT YOUR SERVICES!!!!111″ (dramatized).
How did we get into this situation? Well, if you also didn’t know, Miller and his councilors all agreed on giving themselves a 20% pay-raise for doing nothing for the city. As Bob Carol also stated on Global TV, the city is also wasting a LOT of money and is incredibly inefficient in its spending. For example, how many city workers does it take to paint a fire hydrant, and how long does it take? The correct answer should be 1 worker, with a maximum of 2 hours. However, the City’s answer is 2 or more workers, over a span of a week — these multiple workers are taking paid breaks for an entire week, what the hell are they doing? Yeah, government jobs DO rock!
So while Miller was saying how he’d cut our services, like police services, TTC, etc…the police department announced that it was going to spend around $240M in hiring/training new officers. That’s great news, really! but what about the service cuts? Oops.
I think it’s a big load of bullshit that Miller is saying how taxes need to be increased and services cut…when he gave himself a pay-raise a few months ago. How about he cut the benefits of himself and the councilors, THEN talk about tax increases and service cuts?
Going to retreat tomorrow and returning Monday, so hopefully I’ll return to more happy times.

City workers: unions.
Councillor payraises: blame councillors. There is no such thing as Miller’s councillors; they’re not affiliated in the same way a party would be, although there will be polarisation because of the difference in the political spectrum.
Council doing nothing: welcome to representative democracy. I fail to see how any other mayor could stop anyone from thinking this.
Tax hikes: I think it’s hilarious that everyone in Toronto is a liberal and then cries when their elected officials do not, in fact, cut taxes, because cutting taxes is not what liberals do. If you wanted tax cuts, vote some conservatives into office. But of course, no one in Toronto wants that. I mean, Miller is a super left-winger, what did you expect?
