This past Saturday it was raining in Oshawa, and I went over to Shawn’s for a gaming session with Joe. When I got home, my SRS indicator was illuminated. If you drive a Honda, that light comes on when you start the ignition as a check, and in the dark you’ll notice how it is usually a red which looks you into the deepest parts of your eyes and burns it. You would also know (if you read the manual) that if the SRS light comes on at any other time other than at ignition, you’ve got a problem (follow past the jump)…
If the light comes on, it could mean your airbags have been disabled and won’t pop out when you really need them. It could also mean your sensors suddenly sprang an error which may be fixed. Or, it could also mean the system has suffered a failure of some sort. This is an indicator you usually DON’T want to ignore, but then again quite a few cars back in the day didn’t even have safety systems…so some of you could really care less. I’m not you, so go figure.
We got the car checked today and well, the old girl has her first little electrical hiccup now. Our mechanic couldn’t reset the SRS, and through diagnostics found that the front airbag, its sensors and the system’s wiring were all dead (in brief terms). The only way to fix this…is to replace it all. And so parts have been ordered and we get to play the waiting game now (for the parts and then for the change). And twiddle our thumbs. And prepare around $1800 for the surgery (1500 replacement, applicable taxes and [under??] estimated service fees).
There could be a lot of argument about the next statement (regarding necessity, [lack of] faith in protection, placing Earthly value on my life) but hey…here it goes:
I’d rather spend the $1800 to fix her up than be gone to not spend anything at all.
