It’s late. It’s “past my bedtime” (hey, we gotta get up early to get to work to make the monies…). It’s the inaugural Late Night Quickie…which should be a quick recording with minimal editing (maybe some splicing, compressing), maximum of 2 layers (ie. no harmony or voice layering), and a lot of off-keyness or mistakes. Here to start it all off is Your Love Never Fails by Jesus Culture, with some compressor, splicing and L/R audio channels (no mono mixing). Then again, don’t all my recordings just have this style?

Alexisonfire’s This Could Be Anywhere…done here, acoustically. Hopefully this is the result of a motivational break from capstone, rather than a procrastination technique, right?
Some notes:
- the recording was done with the new AT2020 and AT2021 I picked up a while back. Pretty clean compared with the older stuff, don’t you think!
- Still using Audacity. This time around I did something along the lines of compressor,normalize,compressor,amplify,compressor,compressor,compressor. I’ll learn to use the EQ one day, I promise.
- Oddly, this was also recorded in one of the washrooms in the house…just for kicks to see how its reverb plays out. Next one will be in another washroom…
- I’ve also changed one line from the original, since there is hope.
- Maybe one day I’ll get real monitors? It sounded fine with my non-monitor headphones, but apparently near the end sounds kind of poor with my non-monitor speakers. Dang.
- After the fact, I can confirm I got flat a few times too many…whoops 🙂
Today’s cover is of If by House of Heroes, which is on the same label as Relient K (ie. Goatee Records). I haven’t listened to them at all prior to a week or two ago, like all the new bands I’ve neglected to sample, but this was one of the first songs I’ve heard from them after some persuasion from a friend. Actually, here’s the actual video I watched/listened to (link), which isn’t as acoustic as I would have thought.
